The train criss-crosses 102 tunnels and 988 bridges on its winding 96 km route
Note: Together with the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and the Nilgiri Mountain Railway in Tamil Nadu, the Kalka-Shimla Railway forms the Mountain Railways of India which were inscribed the UNESCO World Heritage Site (Cultural Site) in 1999.
