Here Visa, There Visa, Everywhere Needs Visa, Jul’2011

Turkmenistan Visa

Transit Visa: In order to apply a transit visa, you need to submit a copy of the front page of your passport, a copy of your onward visa(i.e Uzbekistan visa, etc), a copy of filled visa application form and a passport-size photo. It will take 14 days for a regular visa processing($35) and 5 working days for an express visa processing($55). Usually, you will be issued a 5-day transit visa which allows you to transit via Howdan/Saragh to Farab. If you apply in Tehran and intend to pick it up at Mashhad, bear in mind that you will likely have to submit the documents again in Mashhad. So keep all your documents in duplicate copy to save you the run. (I applied in Tehran on Thursday and got it in Mashhad on Tuesday, which is less than 5 working days J).

Payment: Pay cash directly over the counter. Stamped cash note is unacceptable.

Original passport will not be held at the embassy/consular office for the above visa applications. By now, you should be able to leave Tehran and travel around Iran for 2 weeks before returning to Tehran to pick up those visas. Bear in mind that you MUST get your Iranian entry stamp extended ONLY IN TEHRAN. Upon picking up your Uzbekistan visa, proceed with the Turkmenistan transit visa and ask to pick up in Mashhad. You can either apply your Afghanistan visa before or after leaving Tehran as it only takes about 2-3 days but bear in mind that you will have to leave your original passport there.
