Community Work

People littered in front of us and we picked them up right after them. ‘Hey! Am I a nut or something?’

We have been picking up rubbish in the neighborhood of Deir Mar Musa the whole morning after breakfast time. Everybody was carrying an empty plastic bag. Many were very excited to join the so-called community work while others took this as an opportunity to get out from the monastery for some fresh air. By the time we reached downhill, all the plastic bags have been loaded with all kinds of garbage that one couldn’t imagine. Yaya…you will say that this is a good education by examples but hey, is there any other better way not to be looked stupid?
Martin suggested to go to the library if I didn’t want to stay on the terrace to watch the night went by and listen to his elaboration on astronomy in the evening. In fact, we missed the Vesper. The main switch in the library has been switched off and I told Martin it might not be polite to stay in the library while others were praying. Shit! Asian always tends to be too obedient which is not necessary most of the time.

I always told Martin that he looked uneasy when he is in churches. He said it was OK but he would prefer Buddhism rather than Christianity and Islam where God has to be worshipped in such a way that makes him uncomfortable. Me either.
