My Heart Goes Sa-la-la-la-lah…

Tomb of Nabi Umran

Believed to be the longest tomb in the world, the Tomb of Nabi Umran is situated alongside the ‘Dhofar Baladiyah(Municipality) Building’ in Al Qawf area beside the Mosque bearing the same name. This elongated tombs is an amazing 41 feet long! There are conflicting stories regarding just how many people are buried here. The likelihood is that his family members were buried with him.

Note: Nabi Emran is the father of Moses according to The Holy Bible: Exodus 6:20.

Al-Baleed Archaeological Site
This is a site of great archaeological importance. Ibn Batutta the 14th century explorer was impressed with this once flourishing place and described it as a beautiful city. Founded in the 11th century, it was a centre of commerce which spread for at least one kilometer along the beach. Parts of the great mosque, and parts of the place are some of the remains to be seen. This is a lovely place to relax and enjoy some flamingo-watching.

Note: Wadi Dawkah, the remains of the caravan oasis of Shisr/Wubar and the affiliated ports of Khor Rori and Al-Baleed is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site (Cultural Site) inscribed in 2000.
